Couples playing pickleball at the courts at Governor's Land in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Spring has sprung, and there’s so much to do at The Governor’s Land at Two Rivers and Two Rivers Country Club! With the return of warmer weather, the members of our private country club community in Williamsburg, Virginia, are getting ready for more outdoor fun with our first-class amenities.

As a waterfront community, our members enjoy floating along the freshwater James and Chickahominy Rivers or playing a round on our 18-hole Tom Fazio-designed championship golf course, which is nestled along the rivers. But for those who prefer to set aside their clubs and pick up a paddle instead, The Governor’s Land at Two Rivers has 8 designated pickleball courts.

Staying active and engaged in physical activity is important to our members. If you haven’t played, pickleball is a recreational paddleball sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong. It’s played on a smaller court than tennis, with a lower net and a ball similar to a Wiffle ball. The game is a great co-ed, outdoor activity for players of all skill levels, and has many benefits – both physical and social.

One of the many reasons why people choose to play pickleball is that it’s a social sport. It can be played as singles or doubles, which allows for plenty of interaction and camaraderie among players. Many communities, like The Governor’s Land at Two Rivers, have organized pickleball groups, where players can meet up regularly to play and socialize in the form of pickleball clinics or pickleball tournaments.

Another benefit of pickleball is that it’s a low-impact sport. Unlike some other sports, pickleball is gentle on the joints, making it a great option for players with arthritis or other conditions that limit mobility.

Whether you’re a beginner or a professional with a paddle, pickleball is easy to learn and even more fun to play. Ready to practice your gameplay on our pickleball courts?
