Members of Two Rivers Country Club often get up close and personal with the flora and fauna of Williamsburg, Virginia in our 1,400+ acre, private, member-owned country club community. Carol O’Neil, a long-term member and resident of The Governor’s Land at Two Rivers, prides herself on snapping photos of our abundant wildlife and spreading awareness of endangered species who live here.

Whether you’re an avid bird watcher, fisherman, or green thumb, The Governor’s Land at Two Rivers is an oasis for wildlife and plant life. Nestled between the majestic James and Chickahominy Rivers, Carol has seen, or seen photos from other members, of more than 154 bird species who call Governor’s Land home. She has also identified over 50 species of butterflies to date.

Most recently, Carol eyed a Spotted Turtle, a rare species of the reptile family. When asked why this was so important, Carol said, “The Spotted Turtle is currently threatened or endangered in several states due to its need for a relatively pollution-free habitat. It can live up to 110 years and doesn’t breed until it’s 14 years old. The fact that we have them here is noteworthy, to say the least!”

From the seashore to the mountains, Virginia offers an oasis of environments for both creatures, people, and plants. Whether you’re spotting an owl from our Tom Fazio-designed championship golf course, searching for aquatic wildlife from our private beach, or strolling along our 10 miles of scenic walking trails that wind through our 200-acre Nature Preserve, The Governors Land at Two Rivers offers a scenic sanctuary in the Commonwealth. We are proud to be environmental stewards and have members who are so passionate about protecting our habitats and their inhabitants.
