Chef gathers herbs from garden.

While Two Rivers Country Club at Governors Land is known for its scenic surroundings, such as the James and Chickhominy Rivers or our 18-hole Tom Fazio-designed championship golf course, it’s also home to creative culinary minds and a group of residents who have a green thumb.

Executive Chef Tony Rizzo and our bartender incorporate the freshest of ingredients into what they serve our residents — literally. Thanks to the Garden Club at our member-owned community, our Chef and bartender have access to a variety of herbs that they can use in their recipes and cocktails. With the summer season still in full swing, both have created special summer dishes and drinks based on what herbs are ready for harvest. Recently, our bartender has experimented with basil and mint in some of the fresh-crafted Club cocktails while our Chef has been caught clipping a couple of herbs to dress up a dish he was working on.

The Garden Club is made up of residents who come together to learn and share gardening knowledge with one another. With no previous gardening experience, this club in our community is led by members and gives gardening opportunities a space to flourish.

Not only does the Garden Club focus on growing fresh herbs, but it also hosts events throughout the year! The group has invited Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists, and herbalists to present on topics like landscape gardening, the history and benefits of therapeutic gardening, and how to attract pollinators with native plants. Special speakers come from notable gardening backgrounds in the Williamsburg area, such as the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Virginia Native Plant Society, and Colonial Williamsburg Arboretum, to share their extensive knowledge with our resident gardeners. But the history of horticulture isn’t the only exciting element the club offers. It’s also a great way for our residents to cultivate their interests and see their hard work shown off through our dining and drink options.
