Welcome Charles Birr, New Food & Beverage Director

Charles BirrPlease join us in welcoming Charles Birr to Two Rivers Country Club at Governor’s Land. Charles is a distinguished food and beverage executive with more than 20 years’ experience as well as impressive wine certifications.

As Food and Beverage Director, Birr will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the two restaurants, The River Room and Osprey Bar, Grille and Terrace as well as the wine shop at Two Rivers Country Club.

Prior to joining Two Rivers, Charles was the Wine and Beverage Manager at Colonial Williamsburg. Previously, he was Beverage Manager at the Inn at Little Washington and Maître d’hôtel at The American Club Resort in Kohler, Wisconsin, both AAA Five Diamond resorts.

Charles has built several award-winning wine programs in his career. At Colonial Williamsburg, he assisted with The Williamsburg Lodge earning a prestigious Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, the Wine Enthusiast Award of Unique Distinction and the Vino! Virginia Platinum Award. His most notable achievement was with The American Club where he received the coveted “Best of Award of Excellence” from Wine Spectator magazine.

The current President of the Virginia Wine Society, Charles is a Certified Wine Educator with the International Court of Education, The Society of Wine Educators, The French Wine Society and a Third Level Candidate with the Court of Master Sommeliers. A Wisconsin native, he began his career in the state and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Green Bay.

Charles recently represented Two Rivers Country Club in Washington, DC, as the Volunteer Wine Director for the American Heart Association’s annual “Heart’s Delight” Wine Auction. He led a team of Sommeliers, together with the Chateau owners of Bordeaux’ First Growth wines, in seminars, private dinners and tastings.

Heart’s Delight is widely recognized as a premier wine event where master winemakers, culinary greats and distinguished guests gather for a distinctive five-day celebration of exceptional food and wine. Dinners and tastings are held at Charlie Palmer’s Steak House, The Ritz Carlton, The Mellon Auditorium and at numerous Embassies’ around the Nation’s Capital. The event raises nearly $3 million for the American Heart Association.
