On the longest day of the year, Friday, June 21, the Governor’s Land Bridge Team and the Two Rivers Country Club Mahjong group gathered together to play their games of choice to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
The more than 70 participants at Governor’s Land at Two Rivers in Williamsburg joined thousands worldwide for The Longest Day event, which raises funds for the Alzheimer’s Association and brings awareness to the challenges faced by nearly 15 million caregivers each day.
To date, the event at Governor’s Land at Two Rivers raised more than $1,800. The event included several tables of duplicate bridge, social bridge and mahjong as well as music, a cash bar and buffet.
“Alzheimer’s is so debilitating,” said resident and event organizer Jane Farthing of the American Contract Bridge League at Two Rivers Country Club. “I wanted to participate because I thought about my father-in-law and know my mom is heading down that same way, so this is a perfect event for me.”
A special thanks to Jane with help from Kay Retan and Jennifer Walton for organizing the event.
